World War 1

Explosions and  firing,
Soldiers dying.
Rain pouring,
Cannons roaring.

Friends in no- man's land,
Covered in mud and sand,
wishing we could give them a hand,
but  only watching the tears expand.

In one corner all alone,
watching all the wounded groan,
ringing for help on his wind-up phone
but getting no signal in that zone.
