Down In The Trenches

I lie there in the trench,
with cold piercing through me.
My hands are so cold you can see my veins clearly.
Blue and tingly my lips are sore,
I just wish I was a General sitting in the warmth.

I have no strength,
to clamber up the trench.
My legs are weary,
I can't do anything really.

Its scary down here,
you don't know what's coming next.
Nobody wants to peer,
as you don't know what to expect.

It gets too late,
I have to do something.
I need to take action,
and be a man truly.

I peer from the trench,
In the mud and the wet.
Why did I have to do it,
only pain and regret.
