The Welcoming Silence

August 4th, war was declared,
Gunpowder and smoke, filling the air,
Children are crying, women are weeping,
bombs are coming, landing and beeping.

I look at the blood, splattered on my jacket,
Guns and dogs, making a racket,
I look at a picture, feel a tear on my cheek,
My wife and son, who will they seek?

My boots are worn, my eyes are tired,
I look at my gun, have i just fired?
I think of the sons, who are now dead,
the screams echo the valleys in my head.

For queen and country, the general commanded,
The loud trumpet, has just sounded,
Over the top, we're going tonight,
Blood and bodies, its a familiar sight.

My last bullet, just been shot,
The scar on my arm, it hurts a lot,
I'm fading, sliding away,
Its coming, a black cloud,
A peaceful, welcoming silence,
I follow a trial of brave blood.
