World War l
Explosions and firing,
soldiers dying.
Rain pouring,
cannons roaring.

Friends in no - man's land,
covered in mud and sand,
wishing we could give them a hand,
but only watching the tears expand.

In one corner all alone,
watching lonely the wounded groan,
ringing for help on his wind - up phone
but getting no signal in that zone.
