I met a soldier

Out in dead field,
He came from the other trench,
I met a soldier.

German I believe he was,
His eyes locked onto mine,
I met a soldier.

I'd shot him in the leg,
He said something I didn't know,
I met a solider.

I couldn't shoot the man,
I left him there in the bullets and fire,
I met a soldier.

I walked away from the injured man,
Even though I couldn't kill him,
I met a soldier.
