May 2010 Newsletter - 2nd Edition

Dear Parents

My attention has been brought to a rumour circulating in the area that the Middle School is to close.  I should like to make it clear that this is not the case.  A review of 0-19 education covering the whole of North Yorkshire is taking place at the moment and North Craven and Skipton/Upper Wharfedale are areas under review.  This process is in the very early stages, no decisions or recommendations have been currently made, there will need to be a public consultation period if there are to be any changes to the education system in the future.

This half term has been bustling with activity - Statutory Tests, East Barnby and French students, what a hectic time we've had but so worthwhile.  Y6 pupils worked incredibly hard during SATs week and deserve to do well.  Y7/8 pupils who attended East Barnby had a wonderful time and were a credit to the school.  Host families who looked after our French students must be exhausted so a special thanks for all your support and hard work.  We live and work in a community who share and help each other, thank you for your support.

Hope you have a relaxing Spring Bank Holiday. Please note we return to school on Monday 7th June.

Yours sincerely
Mary V. Parker
Head Teacher

Lefevre Visit
Thank you so much to all families who hosted our French guests, everyone had a fantastic time and the visit was a huge success.  We are now looking forward to travelling back to France on Monday 14th June.

Y6 Rounders
After beating Settle Middle School convincingly, IMS represented North Craven against Skipton, Wharfedale and South Craven champions.  3 great performances - exceptional fielding and excellent batting saw IMS with 8-2, 11-3 and 13-2.5 to become champions.  Congratulations to Ellie Lambert, Emily Campbell, Rebecca Eyles, Safia Part, Niamh Danskin, Joel Wynne, Marcus Gait, Jordan Carter Brown, Jonathan Horton.

Packed Lunches
Just a quick reminder that pupils who have packed lunches should always bring a healthy, balanced meal to school, this means keeping items with a high fat of sugar content to a minimum.  We have had some instances of pupils having sweets in their lunch box, which is not acceptable.

Grasmere Residential Visit
The visit to the Lake District is approaching fast and we are all looking forward to it. Please find below the list of the things your child will need to take on the above visit.  At the recent meeting several parents requested new copies of the list and we thought this was the easiest way to do it.  Please also remember that pupils will need a healthy packed lunch for Tuesday.

Y8 Lightwater Valley Visit
To mark the end of their time here at Ingleton Middle, Miss Higham is organising a visit to Lightwater Valley for our year 8 pupils on Friday 9th July, parents should have received a letter with full details.  This should be a fantastic day and a great opportunity for them to have a day out together as a year group before moving on to the next stage of their education at Settle College.

East Barnby
What a week. We had so much fun it hurt! Our children were truly awesome - everyone worked hard on learning new skills and perfecting old skills. They worked as a team, challenged themselves and supported each other through it all. We are so lucky to have children to be proud of. All the East Barnby staff were blown away by the children's enthusiasm and by their good manners and sense of fun.  Thank you to everyone, from parents to staff, to children.
We all had a week that will be remembered for a long time.

Eco Schools Update
Thank you to all parents have donated time and resources to the Quad renovation and the wild flower/ herb spiral tyre (a new addition to the fit in with the Year of Bio-diversity!). As always we are in need of plants and seeds - if anyone has any spare wildflower seeds or plants to enhance our pond/bog area we would be very grateful. By next half term I will be able to tell you whether we have gained the Silver Eco-school award. Thanks also goes to all the hours put in by the children, they are true eco-warriors!
We currently have a group of pupils who are spending enrichment time making mosaics to be displayed in the Quad.  Here are a group of year 8 boys; Kevin Shuttleworth, Gavin Hill, William Dawson, Matthew Horn & James Hodkinson; with one of their fantastic mosaics.

Guide Dogs for the Blind
Thank you to all those people who have contributed to the aluminium collection for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  Since September we have filled 34 sacks!  Please continue your support.  Thank you.

Recycle your Old Mobile Phone
We also collect unwanted mobile phones for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  They do not need to be in working order.  Each one is worth £3.50 to the charity!  If you (or anyone you know) have an old mobile phone please send it in to school.  Pupils are asked to collect a consent form from Mrs McKenzie for parents/guardians to sign to say the phone is no longer required. Thank you to all contributors.

Have you got talent?
Forget the X Factor and Britain's Got Talent, we know that in our local area we have a huge number of very talented people.  In view of this Ingleton Gala committee are holding a Talent Contest for local people of all ages, the winner of which will perform at the Gala Disco on Saturday July 17th 2010.  If you are interested please collect an entry form from the school office or for more information call Helen on 015242 41863.  Entries must be in by June 30th.
