Solutions for the Planet

Two teams were chosen by neutral judges to represent our school at the 'Solutions for the Planet' conference at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.  Pupils had to come up with a 'Big Idea' to change the community or planet.  Our winning ideas were 'Let's Walk' and 'Buy Local, Buy Fair'. Pupils listened to an inspirational speech then, with the advice and help of experts, had to develop their ideas. The day concluded with a visit from two members of Parliament, Mr Hilary Benn Minister for the Environment spent a good deal of time with our groups.
'Let's Walk' was awarded a special prize; this was given by Leeds Rhinos and included tickets to see Leeds Rhinos play Salford Reds!
Both Leeds Carnegie and Leeds Rhinos are already keen to encourage 'Let's Walk'.
We are pleased to announce that both teams who were entered in to the competition at the Royal Armouries in Leeds have made it through to the semi-finals at the University of York on Friday 15th May.  They will have to do a five minute presentation to a panel of judges and all the other entrants and then have five minutes question time.
If they succeed here they will go on the final at the Palace of Westminster!

We are very proud of both teams for getting so far and wish them the best of luck.
