Careers Education and Guidance
Pupils in Y7 and 8 complete units of work which include topics on
self-awareness, self-development, key skills, transition issues and the
world of work.
The Careers Advisor attached to the school assists with this work and
is available to provide individual interviews if required.
Advice, guidance and information is also available in the Careers
section of the school library.
As a joint project between English and PSHCEE, year 8 pupils were
involved in applying for work at 'Happy Valley Holidays' - a fictitious
leisure site.
Pupils had to respond to job adverts with a letter of application
stating their qualifications and experience. Local employers or working
people came into school for a morning of
interviewing. Pupils were required to dress for the part and role play
their character. It was a challenging morning but we believe beneficial
to both
employers and pupils! To be repeated. Many thanks to those
involved for giving their working time.

Year 7 were involved in an afternoon of information for the future. Four local people shared about their work and why they had taken on those occupations. A pharmacist, a policeman, a hairdresser and a Yorkshire Park ranger - all with stories of their everyday experiences and the skills needed to tackle the job. Pupils appreciated the afternoon and were surprised at some of the training necessary for the work. Again thanks to all involved.
