Prospectus: Extra Curricular / Enrichment Activities
Our children are offered a wide range of enrichment activities which take place during the last 30 minutes of the school day and which in some instances continue until 5 p.m.
Enrichment activities are offered by all members of staff and vary according to the season.Drama
As well as being able to enjoy theatrical productions as members of an
audience at venues such as Kendal, Leeds and Blackpool our children
learn drama and theatre skills as part of English, Humanities and
P.S.H.C.E. as well as being involved in role-play in other subjects.
Children in all three years are involved in our productions.
Members
of staff write scripts and no volunteer is refused a part. Scripts are
adjusted to meet the number of willing participants.
Rehearsals are held in enrichment sessions and after school and the
children's work is performed to parents and members of the community at
the end of the term. Costumes, make-up and scenery combine to add an
extra dimension.
Sport
A wide range of teams offer varied opportunities for children to
develop their sporting skills and interest according to the season. In
addition to fixtures with teams from other schools, there are
inter-house competitions in athletics, cross country running, hockey,
netball, football, table tennis, basketball, rounders and swimming. All
children are encouraged to take part. There are also a number
of inter-form competitions taking place throughout the year.
Some years a dance performance is produced.

Residential Visits
Each year group is given the opportunity of a residential trip. These
visits are arranged as extensions to the education and social
development of each and every child. The visits have tremendous
benefits so we hope all pupils will take part however, there is no
obligation and provision is made in school for those children unable to
take part. The visits are important experiences in sharing,
co-operation and self-reliance as well as being very enjoyable.
We currently offer the following visits:
| Year 6 Wales | 4 days, youth hostel emphasis on environmental studies. |
| Year 7 & 8 East Barnby | 5 days, outdoor activity centre. |
| Years 7 & 8 France | 8 day exchange with the College St.Joseph, Herbignac, staying in the homes of pen friends. |

Comenius Visits
For the last five years we have been able to offer an all expenses paid
trip to one of our partner schools to a small number of pupils.
The pupils have represented the school at conferences in Finland,
France, Norway and Austria.
Other Visits & Visitors
We offer a range of theatre trips out of school hours and day trips are also organised by each year group or by subject teachers where appropriate. Visiting artists, poets, musicians and theatre groups - English and French - are invited into school on a regular basis and are highly valued by staff and pupils alike.

Because of community links with La Chapelle des Marais in France, we are fortunate to be able to welcome French visitors quite often. As part of the French Exchange, we welcome a class of French youngsters to the school and our homes for one week each year. Pupils and teachers from our partner European Schools visit on a less regular basis. Each year we have a guest assistant teacher from Japan for a period of up to ten months.
