Science
At Ingleton Middle School, Science is not an armchair subject; it is
an opportunity for pupils to gain knowledge through investigation,
practical work and experimentation. Building closely on skills
and information acquired at Primary School, Science teaches pupils to
question and think for themselves so that they are well prepared for
examination, and their future studies at Settle College.
Pupils study in mixed ability classes covering Biology, Chemistry and
Physics through a combination of units. Great emphasis is placed
on making these units relevant to the lives and experiences of pupils
so that they appreciate and therefore internalise what they are
learning. Our aim is to maximise the potential of all by
challenging individuals within an environment that is both academic and
supportive.
The school has an extremely well equipped laboratory that has recently
been refurbished; this provides a wonderful learning environment that
pupils find both stimulating and conducive to creative work.
Science facilities extend outside to a wildlife area that provides a
further much-used resource for lessons and enrichment.
Extra-curricular Science is popular and pupils now have the opportunity
to embark on Crest Awards.
