Travelling
Tedies
Our project celebrated its tenth anniversary in December 2006.
Since we began the project way back in December 1996, our intrepid team of furry friends have visited 120 countries and have been on a staggering 1244 visits worldwide. Our bears have seen war-torn Iraq, sat next to penguins in Antarctica, walked the Great Wall of China and have dug for oil in Eastern Europe.
The bear's travelling companion
sends a postcard to school and makes an entry in the diary. We have
over 60 completed diaries and 25 ongoing ones.
The project will
continue until we have visited every country in the world.
Our teddies have travelled with pupils, teachers, friends and governors. In that time they have had many adventures. They have explored limestone caves in the south of France, been skiing in the Alps and Pyrenees, ridden camels in Morocco and sunbathed on every beach in the Mediterranean.
They have cruised in the Caribbean, sailed through the Panama Canal, studied penguins in the Antarctic and visited hot springs in Alaska. They have swum with whales in Patagonia and with sea-lions in the Galapagos, panned for gold in Australia, scuba dived off the coast of Tunisia and dug for oil in Eastern Europe.
They have on safari in Kenya, climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, walked the Great Wall of China and flown in a bomber over Afghanistan. Our bears have been photographed on the rim of a volcano, in the poverty of Eritrea and amidst the Pyramids of Egypt.
They have met the "Blue Peter" team in Venice, visited Universal Studios in Florida, enjoyed rides in theme parks all over Europe and even witnessed the finish of the Tour de France in Paris. They have trekked to see the Inca ruins in Peru, climbed the Statue of Liberty in New York, stood upright next to the Leaning Tower of Pisa and shaken the hand of Mickey Mouse in Orlando. One climbed a mountain in Greenland.
They have seen in person the huge statues on Easter Island and entered Basra with the British Army. They have enjoyed many relaxing holidays in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and South East Asia as well as the more favoured resorts such as Spain, Canary Islands and Greece. Sadly four bears have been stolen... in Argentina, France, Andorra and Zaire. One bear was accidentally left in Uganda having been photographed on the Equator.
Our team of twenty five bears are now ready for the final challenge. They must visit a few more countries that they haven't been to yet.
The countries we still need to visit are these.
Bosnia, Serbia, Macedonia, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras,
Paraguay, Uruguay, Sudan, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Bhutan, Burma, Laos,
Korea, Papua New Guinea, Libya, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau, Sierra
Leone, Ivory Coast, Niger, Chad, Lesotho,
Swaziland, Madagascar, Somalia, Central African Republic and Yemen.
Our bears will not rest until they have been everywhere!!!!
