Lefèvre Project

Espaces de Vie Fragiles - Héritage à Protéger

With some support from the Lefèvre Foundation, which aims to increase understanding and trust between young people in the UK and France, we are working on the above project with our partner school in Herbignac. The Lefèvre Foundation has provided some funds to assist principally in travel expenses for the group.

The project aims to enable our children to learn about and compare the two environments, what makes them special, their problems and their plans for the future. We hope that they will develop a real understanding of their world and an interest in its sustainability as well as developing relationships with their French peers and all the benefits that entails.

Essentially the project which we will be actively engaged in throughout the year is a comparison of the two National Parks - The Yorkshire Dales and the Brière. Some of the work can be done in humanities and French lessons, which means that more pupils can be involved. Other work will be done purely by the Lefevre group in enrichment time and after school. The project is being led by Mrs Kate Butcher and Mr Michael Kaye.

The work culminates in two contact weeks - the first in Ingleton (April/May) and the second in Herbignac. During these weeks, the two groups will be working together all the time, with much greater contact than has been possible through the French Exchange.

Preparation for these weeks in the individual schools involves work on-

Materials will be exchanged between the two schools throughout the year as well as letters and other contact to help build relationships.

We will be working with the twinning group in Ingleton, Natural England and Yorkshire Dales National Park.
