Summer Fair
The Summer Fair will take place on Wednesday 25th June 6-8p.m.  Nearer the time I will provide you with more details but in the interim if you have any jumble, nearly new garments, toys, books, games, items for a raffle, tombola or white elephant please hang on to them.

Area Transfer Day
The day when our Y8 pupils spend the day at Settle College and the Year 5 Primary School pupils spend the day with us is Thursday 10th July.  As usual, we will follow this with a meeting at 7.30 p.m. for parents of the new children so that they can view the school, meet teachers and ask questions.  We shall have on show, and to purchase, sweatshirts and PE/Games T-shirts and sweatshirts all of which will have the school logo embroidered on them.

Rainbow School Challenge
We are always very proud of our pupils and the way they rise to a challenge.  All those who took part in the £2.00 challenge did amazingly well, using the £2.00 they "borrowed" and their imagination to raise money for the Rainbow School for autistic children in London, where one of our former pupils now works.  Activities included baking and selling cakes, raffles, car washing, dog walking and cleaning toilets to name but a few!  We are proud to announce the grand total raised was an astounding £1330.19. Well done to all who took part and a big thank you from all at the Rainbow School.

Derian House Enterprise
Again our pupils have proved how willing they are to help those less fortunate than themselves.  Derian House Children's Hospice is a charity we have supported in school for many years.  Our year 8 pupils made cakes, biscuits and drinks in food tech and mugs in art which they sold to staff and pupils at break time on Wednesday 30th April, raising a fantastic £109.90.  A big thank you to all involved especially the parents who donated ingredients for the baking.

French Exchange
We were pleased to welcome 29 pupils from the College St Joseph, Herbignac for the last week in April.  They followed a very busy programme of activities and excursions and had a very successful and enjoyable week.  Thank you very much to all the host families who did such a wonderful job and particularly those families where there is no reciprocal visit this year; your generosity is much appreciated.
A group of 16 pupils will be travelling to Herbignac on the 4th June and will be following a similar programme of activities in France.

North Wales
This is a term for residential visits and this month our year 6 pupils are off to explore castles in North Wales to coincide with their current history project.  They will be staying at the Youth Hostel in Conwy and visiting the castle there as well as the ones in Caearnarfon and Beaumaris, along with visits to Plas Newydd and the Greenwood Centre.  We hope they all have a fantastic time.

Comenius News
Eleven Y6 and Y7 pupils entered the competition to represent the school at the Pupil Conference in Herbignac in October 2008.  They produced projects about France and the Loire Atlantique region in particular.  Each entrant then had an interview and six pupils were selected to travel.  It was an extremely close competition and the decision was very difficult.  However, in the end the following pupils were selected and will be taking an all expenses paid trip to France in October.

Abi Hartnell Bonnie Rowe
Jorja Watt James Hodkinson
Molly Beresford Aaron Woodhouse

Teachers from Norway and Finland are visiting us this term.  The Norwegian teachers are looking at literacy and special needs in particular and are introducing handball to Y6 pupils.  The Finnish Teachers are particularly interested in the running of residential trips (which they don't have in Finland), the teaching of foreign languages and our school routines.  We are always pleased to welcome teachers from other countries into the school and feel that we benefit from their interaction with both our staff and our pupils.

French Week
From the 16th to the 20th June, Year 7 & 8 pupils will have a project week.  During the week, they will complete a cross-curricular project related to French history, geography, culture, sport and language.  Lots of interesting activities are planned and we are looking for French speakers who would be able to support us during this special week.

Vacancy - Lunchtime Supervisor
We have a vacancy from September for a Lunchtime Supervisor.  The post is for one hour each day from 12.20-1.20pm to assist with supervision of pupils whilst they have lunch in the canteen and play either in school or in the yard.  For further details please contact the school office.

Guide Dogs for the Blind
Just a reminder that we are still collecting silver foil, postage stamps, empty ink cartridges and old mobile phones, to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.  The charity receive £1.00 for every ink cartridge we send and £3.50 for every mobile phone.  To date we have sent a total of 55 sacks of foil.  Thank you to everyone who has contributed and keep it coming in!
