Code of Conduct
The school seeks to establish a secure environment in which young people can thrive and develop. It encourages pupils to discover the pleasures of learning and to enjoy success. To do this, pupils need to learn self-discipline and self-motivation. Enthusiasm for their work is encouraged, as is the responsibility for their own learning and behaviour.
Behaviour towards othersPupils should be responsible and respectful towards their
peers and
any adult in the school. They should show consideration for
others
All adults in the school are aware of the code of conduct and
will
refer pupils who break the code to their form teachers in the first
instance. It is impossible to list all types of unacceptable
behaviour, but examples would be:
Using School Transport
Expectations
Sanctions
Items not allowed in school
For safety and security reasons, certain items are not allowed
in
school.
Behaviour in class
Pupils are expected to arrive in class on time, with all the
necessary equipment and ready to learn.
Unless instructed to do otherwise, pupils should line up quietly
outside the classroom until they are told to enter.
Pupils should be sufficiently well organised not to need to leave the
room during the lesson. Permission to do so will be given in
certain circumstances at the discretion of the teacher.
Sanctions will apply for pupils who are disruptive or behave in an
inappropriate manner, thus jeopardising their own or other pupils'
chances of making progress.
Homework
Homework should be completed by the given time and handed in
as
requested. If a pupil does not understand something, they
must
see the member of staff concerned well before the handing-in time for
an explanation.
If a pupil does not hand in their homework on time and has no
explanatory note from his/her parents then it will be assumed that the
homework has not been done and the pupil will do their work in
detention. A record is kept of pupils who have to do
homework in
detention.
Parents could also assist us by signing the school planner each week in
acknowledgement of their awareness of homework being undertaken
Moving around school, breaks and lunchtimes
Pupils are expected to move around the school in a civilised
manner,
treating their peers and any adult with respect.
Members of the teaching staff are on duty before, after school, and
during break times. Members of the leadership team and
lunchtime
supervisors are on duty at lunchtimes.

Pupils will be told
whether they should go outside, stay inside or if they have the
choice. When outside they should stay in the areas defined
for
their year group. When inside they should find something
quiet to
do e.g. homework or board game, in their own classrooms.
At lunchtime, pupils should line up sensibly at the appropriate time
and should walk round to the canteen when asked to do so.
Having
chosen a seat, they should remain there for the duration of the meal
unless asked to move by an adult. A record is kept of
lunchtime
incidents.
Sanctions for breaking the code of conduct could include
Incidents and sanctions given will be reported to the form
teacher.
A record of the incident and sanctions will be kept. According to the
severity/frequency of the incident, the matter could then be taken up
by the 'head of year', the deputy head or ultimately the head.
All incidents of misbehaviour will be recorded.
Parents will be informed in the event of serious misdemeanour or frequent misbehaviour. If there is persistent poor behaviour this could lead to pupils being removed from school visits.
Very serious misdemeanours could result in the pupil concerned being excluded from the school, short term or permanently.
Pupils are also expected to adhere to the school rules when on educational visits or engaged in special activities. Sanctions for misdeeds will depend on the situation and the incident. Serious misconduct could result in parents being contacted to collect their child and take them home and/or exclusion from future visits or other activities.
