Rainforest Project

The year 7 pupils are working on a project about the rainforest in different lessons including humanities and art. They have been learning about what is in the rainforest, how we are destroying it and what will happen when the rainforest has disappeared completely. They have been learning by watching videos, reading books and doing worksheets. In art they have been making a display about the rainforest and what lives there such as the animals and the indians. We interviewed two year 7 pupils about what they thought of the rainforest and what they enjoyed and didn’t enjoy.

This is our interview with Ellie Parker: Q: What are you doing in your project about the rainforest? A: We are studying the disasters of the rainforest, watching videos and doing worksheets. Also we are learning about the animals and the indians that live there.

05rainfor01 Q: What do you enjoy doing most in the lessons about the rainforest? A: I enjoy learning about the animals and watching the videos. Q: What have you learnt about what is happening to the rainforest?

A: We have learned about the peasants moving into the rainforest and how they’re burning and cutting down the trees. Cattle ranchers have cleared an area for cows so that people can have cheap beef burgers. The miners have cleared the ground for mining and that means they’re making train tracks as well. There are also road builders who have cleared the land to make roads. Q: Do you enjoy doing this topic? A: Yes I think it’s very interesting and I have learned some useful facts.

And our interview with Maisie Thistlethwaite of 7CB: Q: What do you enjoy most about the project of the rain forest? A: I love watching the videos in humanities because we learn a lot from them.

05rainfor02 Q: What do you do in the lessons about the rain forest? A: We watch videos and do worksheets in humanities and in art we are making two wall displays which include all the plants and animals of the rain forest.

Q: How do you feel about what’s happening to the rain forest? A: I feel quite upset because they say that the rain forest won’t be here for much longer and the climate will go up and the poor little animals will have their homes destroyed.

Q: What do you think we should do to prevent the destruction of the rain forest? A: I think that the cattle ranchers should find a new place to keep their cattle, because they are destroying the rain forest.

I enjoy doing about the rain forest very much because I find loads of information and I love the videos but my favourite thing about this topic is the wall displays in art because now they are finished they look really good.
